Popstars Dua Lipa and The Weeknd have inspired thousands of baby names in 2024

Naming your baby after a celebrity is becoming increasingly popular in the UK, with a Childcare survey revealing a 112% increase in Brits being influenced by a celebrity when picking their child’s name in the last decade.



This got us thinking, how much influence do popstars have? When looking, we discovered the name Dua, likely inspired by the huge popstar Dua Lipa has increased by 113% since the release of her debut single in 2015. 


Using baby names tool BabyCentre, we discovered the popularity of the top 10 male and female artists' names of 2024, with some interesting results.

The continued rise of Taylor Swift has also been found to have an impact on baby names, with a 62% increase in girls being named Taylor, after the pop sensation within the last year. 


Following her support on Taylor Swift’s The Era’s Tour, as an opening act in late 2023 to early 2024, Sabrina Carpenter has also continued to rise in popularity in the last year, with a 27% increase of baby girls being named after her in the same period.

The Weeknd, real name Abel, made his first musical appearance in 2011, and following his performance at Coachella in 2012, the name has increased in popularity for babies, with a 169% increase since then. 



Methodoloy

Using the top 10 female and male artists of 2024 from ranker.com their names where entered into BabyCentre’s names finder tool. This tool revealed the number of babies, within the UK, with this name and their increase/ decrease of popularity.
